Jesus goes out into the wilderness for forty days. He knows what it is like to be alone in dangerous conditions. He understands what it is like to be hungry and maybe even afraid.
But Jesus is never abandoned. As Brother Myers, a pastor from Liberia, reflects: “Jesus was driven by the Spirit of God… Satan forgot that Jesus wasn’t alone. The spirit was still there.”
James is a fisherman in Liberia who faces perilous conditions when he goes out to sea. He also knows what it is to be hungry and afraid. There are times when he spends hours in his boat without making a catch.
Thanks to your support, James now has the equipment he needs to fish safely and sustainably. He has a compass, a life jacket and a GPS tracking system, which helps him to find good fishing spots and return home safely.
His partner, Cynthia, now has more fish to sell and they are able to send their children to school, as well as save some money for the future.
Let us then not abandon our sisters and brothers when they are in need of help. Let us stand alongside them as they work to feed their families.
