Happy the man who has placed his trust in the Lord.

Psalm 39:5

The readings today encourage us to put our trust in the Lord. This is not always easy. There are times when we face serious challenges in our lives, when we might feel abandoned. But we are reminded today that God is always with us, especially when life is difficult.

Lokho lives in a small village in Kenya, where there was no rain for almost three years. When her cows and goats died because of the drought, she had no other way to feed her family.

This was a really difficult time for Lokho, but her faith and trust in God remained. “I feel bad and turn to God through prayer. I pray for a better life in which to raise my children. I pray for good health and peace of mind… Since we believe the provider is God, I rely on God.”

Lokho joined up with a group of women and reached out for help. Our local expert, Wakera, shared his skills for growing food in harsh climates and provided the women with seeds and tools to plant their own kitchen garden. He also gave them shade nets, to protect the plants from the scorching sun.

By selling some of the produce that she grows, Lokho is able to save money in case drought strikes again. Her trust in God has given her hope; her work with her community has given her resilience. “I feel like I’m safe and secure,” she declares.
