Hello I'm Dominic - I'm 37 and I'm a parish volunteer in the Northampton Diocese.
I have been volunteering with CAFOD for two years. From my childhood my parents, especially my mum, have been very actively working with Caritas in Goa. I have grown up seeing first-hand the difference it has made in people’s lives.
Knowing that the work you do has a significant impact on the lives of those living in poverty around the world. Additionally the activities like soup lunches and fundraisers are good social events in the church which instil a community spirit.
For one Harvest Family Fast Day, apart from delivering the Fast Day talk and encouraging people to give via the envelopes and contactless device, we also held a soup lunch which was well attended considering the number of people returning to the church. My wife had never made soup in that quantity so it was a first time for her. It proved to be very well received.
It is a rewarding experience and a very good use of one’s time and talent. A great way to get to know more people in the parish and your parish priest.
